Liu Qi, a Chinese artist based in the United States, graduated with a master’s degree from the Chinese Fine Brushwork Figure Painting from the College of Traditional Chinese Painting at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. Liu Qi currently teaches at The Central Academy of Fine Arts and serves as the Head of the Art Department at Beijing Dongcheng Vocational University.
Liu Qi is recently working and living in New York City and Beijing. He is the member of the China Artists Association, director of the Overseas Chinese Artists Association, the Vice Secretary-General of China Art Revitalization Society and an art creator and artist at the Yanjing Painting & Calligraphy Society in China.
As one of the first artists selected for the Capital’s Exceptional Young and Middle-aged Artists Talent Group, many of his important works have been collected by relevant institutions both domestically and abroad. Liu Qi has been recognized by Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Collection as one of the Top 10 contemporary ink figure painting artists. His works have been selected for numerous prestigious exhibitions both in China and overseas, winning several awards and honors, such as the nomination for the Chinese Contemporary Artist by Rongbaozhai Art Gallery on the 5th anniversary of Artwork Magazine, the Excellence Award at the 2nd Chinese Figure Painting Exhibition, the Highest Award - Excellence Award at the 4th National Youth Fine Arts Exhibition, and the "Excellent Artist Award" at the 2nd Contemporary Art Exchange Exhibition.
Liu Qi has served as a member of the organizing committee and an exhibition judge for the Global Chinese Times Golden Calf Awards. He was also invited to design award certificates, gold, silver, and bronze medals, and official promotional posters for the 29th Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. He has published his works and papers in important academic journals both in China and abroad, and authored academic monographs, including "Selected Works of Contemporary Chinese Artists: Liu Qi's Works," "AI Tribal Survival Handbook," and the bilingual collection "Liu Qi's Works" (in Chinese and English), which received the highest award for Chinese educational materials during the 12th Five-Year Plan.
Liu Qi has visited the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Austria, and other countries for academic exchanges and artistic interactions. He has been invited to participate in academic discussions and art exchanges at institutions such as the Berlin University of the Arts in Germany, the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts in Italy, and in China's Taiwan region. Liu Qi has also participated in the International Academic Symposium on "Contemporary and Traditional Art Creation Perspectives" and published a paper titled "Entering the Future from the Past - Understanding and Reflection on the Creation and Development of Chinese Painting.
